DOES OPTIMISATION MEAN REDUNDANCIES? VARIOUS DIMENSIONS OF OPTIMISATION IN LOGISTICS AND BEYOND
The disputatious panel title marks an attempt to answer the question about the different dimensions of optimisation, its importance in logistics and elsewhere, and more specifically to reflect critically on the consequences of optimisation. After all, when we view optimisation as an effort to increase productivity and efficiency, we can optimise everything, not just logistics. And optimisation in logistics is not only faster delivery, and a more efficient warehouse, but also a better IT system, or a more competitive business location. How to maintain and even increase the quality of services while operating under time pressure, and at the same time not negatively impact the environment? Is automation, which in people’s minds is inseparable from redundancies, the answer?
