LODZKIE REGION AS THE GARDEN OF POLAND
In 2022, an innovative project was initiated by Marshal of the Lodzkie Region Grzegorz Schreiber, titled: “Lodzkie Region as the garden of Poland”. As part of the project, numerous actions are being taken to improve life quality of the region’s residents by increasing the area of green spaces while preserving natural biodiversity. The project strongly focuses on the education of residents, on shaping climate-friendly attitudes in them, and on promoting the natural potential of the region. It provides for financial support for local government units to subsidise tasks in the field of green infrastructure development, and for garden associations running family allotment gardens.
The main objective of the panel is to raise awareness that supporting nature is an important factor in tackling climate change, and to highlight the role that properly managed green zones play in public space. We will reflect on solutions that, if applied, can visibly contribute to transforming often unfriendly public spaces into green enclosures. We will make an attempt to develop good practices to support biodiversity in the urbanised space.
